The new Cornwall champion is Andrew Greet, who won the Emigrant Cup with 5½/6. Jeremy Kneebone won the Falmouth Cup with 4½ and Owen Evans the Penwith Cup with 5. Penwith are the first holders of the new Centenary Cup.
Cornwall 8 - 8 Somerset ( Exminster 11th October)
Wins from Jeremy Menadue, Roger Grime, Simon Bartlett and Gary Trudeau, together with 5 draws on the bottom 6 boards contributed to a good result in the first county match of the season
Cornwall 9 - 7 Hampshire (Exminster 1st November)
Wins from Daniel Wakeham, Stephen Piper, Douglas Cooke, Colin Sellwood and Philip Spargo contributed to this victory. However the MVP award goes to Sheila Cooke. In the last game to finish, hopelessly lost position, everyone packing up and assuming that the match would finish 8 - 8. Suddenly there is a commotion at the board and it turns out that Sheila has produced a forced mating sequence to win the match for Cornwall.
Cornwall 8½ - 7½ Gloucestershire (Exminster 6th December)
A strong performance on the higher boards, with no losses on boards 1 - 9, brought home a good result for the team, which remains unbeaten so far.
Cornwall 5½ - 10½ Devon (Liskeard School 31st January)
The first loss of the season - a convincing win by the Devon team. Wins from Jeremy Menadue (1), Simon Bartlett (8) and David Saqui (10). Several near misses among the draws but not near enough!
